Len’s Mills
I don’t have any really lovely, independently-owned quilt shops in my town, but I DO live close to a Len’s Mills location. Since quilters from other parts of the provence sometimes ask me about it, last time I was there I snapped a few pictures.
The place is HUGE. I certainly can’t complain about the lack of selection! Most of what they carry isn’t exactly my taste, though. Lots of Moda, Northcott, Thimbleberries, Benartex, etc., etc. Actually, they do have a decent amount of Michael Miller. But there’s also TONS of Christmas and other holiday prints, batiks, novelty prints and cutesy baby stuff. I guess that’s what sells. :( I have only ever found one FreeSpirit print here.
The other problem is that despite the…”ambiance”…it’s not really that cheap. Things still hover around the $8/yard mark, and when you do find something desirable (I found a Kaffe Fassett print during this last visit) it’s priced higher. The Kaffe was $14/yard I think. So it’s still better to shop online from American sources.
All that said, they often have bits and pieces of old lines. So it’s always worth checking since you might just find that last Swell print that a friend is looking for. ;)
swooooooon. thank you for that last piece of swell :)
seriously, stop making me want to go to len’s mills and splurge in the middle of the winter!!!
OOOOHHHH ……..I’d forgotten about Len’s Mills. My sister lives in Cambridge, too and I used to go there often. Well that was over 25 years ago, and since then, Life got in the way. I’m lining up a visit in the next month or so. I was hoping to check out the Thrifts that way, maybe I should have a look in Len’s too.
I happened across your blog after looking at your photos on Flickr.
