String Top Finished
I spent some time with Tong this past weekend sewing in order to get some things finished in time for Christmas. We were actually both working on string quilts, since Tong was working on the quilt she’s making for her mum. It’s really gorgeous, and I think she’ll love it!
I was finishing the blocks for the quilt that I’m making for my sister and brother-in-law using the leftover vintage sheets that we used on the tops of the wedding favours at their wedding in September. Once we started working out the final layout, I suddenly thought that I wasn’t such a fan of the really dark fabric, and almost made more blocks in order to remove it from the design, but thankfully Tong talked me out of it, since it would have been a lot more work for very little gain. After all, the top still looks pretty good! But I’ve definitely learned my lesson about using a design wall earlier in the process. :)
I’ve also started to think about what I want to put on the back, and since the bouquets that us ladies carried were full of oranges and yellows, I’m thinking that perhaps I’ll use one of the vintage sheets from my stash that has those colours in it. What do you think?
I’m not sure that it will be quilted and bound in time for Saturday, but at least I will have a finished top to put under the tree. I hope they like it!
